A complex manufacturing process

The active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) is derived from crude fish oil and manufactured through a complex process which complies with good manufacturing practices.

The API is a highly purified pharmaceutical preparation of EPA and DHA ethyl esters, chemically modified form of fatty acids. The manufacturing processes include proprietary steps to produce a patented product which contains a total concentration of more than 90 per cent omega-3 ethyl esters.

Deacidification/alkaline refining
This step refines the crude oil by removing free fatty acids and impurities.

Stripping
The stripping step is a highly specialised process which removes the environmental pollutants and cholesterol are removed from the refined fish oil.

Ethyl transesterification
In this step, the triglycerides in the deacidified and stripped fish oil react to form ethyl esters.

Distillation
An evaporation and condensation process conducted at an extremely low
pressure to increase the omega-3 concentration.

Precipitation
A complex precipitation step is used to increase the concentration of omega-3 fatty acid ethyl esters.
