Pronova BioPharma in brief

Pronova BioPharma is a global leader in research, development and manufacture of marine-originated omega-3 derived pharmaceutical products.

The group’s first commercialised product is branded in a number of countries throughout Europe, Asia and in the USA. End-user sales are growing rapidly in all international markets and the reached annual run rate at 31 December 2009 was USD 1,063 million, according to IMS Health.

Our product is the first and only EU- and FDA approved omega-3 derived prescription drug.

Marketing and distribution of Pronova BioPharma’s key product is currently licensed to both local and global pharmaceutical companies.

Developing the future

The group has a highly qualified research and development team, which maintains strong relationships with global research and development networks.

New capsule technology

A worldwide licence and development agreement with FMC Corporation covers the creation of a new alginate based capsule technology. The capsule technology is expected to extend the life cycle of our products, and can be utilised for present branded products as well as for
future pharmaceutical products under development by Pronova BioPharma.

FMC will develop the capsule technology, while Pronova BioPharma is responsible for clinical development and for securing necessary regulatory approvals. The new capsule is expected to be launched in 2011.

Expanding for further growth

Pronova BioPharma’s headquarters are located at Lysaker in Norway, while production takes place in the manufacturing facility at Sandefjord in Norway and in Kalundborg, Denmark. Production capacity has been increased several times in order to meet the demand. Growth continues, and a second plant in Kalundborg in Denmark became operational in the third quarter of 2009. The first commercial shipment is expected during the first quarter of 2010. The new manufacturing plant is designed for an annual production capacity of 1 200 tonnes, which doubles the group’s production capacity.

Pronova BioPharma's operating revenues in 2009 were NOK 1,790 million and the group employed the equivalent of some 327 full-time personnel. Roughly 30 new employees were hired during 2009 and 120 in 2008.

The parent company’s shares are listed on Oslo Børs with the ticker code PRON.
