Pronova BioPharma in brief

Pronova BioPharma is a global leader in the research, development and manufacture of marine originated omega-3 derived pharmaceutical products.

Our first commercialised product is branded as Omacor globally and was re-branded as Lovaza in the USA in August 2007. This is the first and only EU and FDA-approved omega-3 derived prescription drug.

Omacor/Lovaza is both efficacious and safe and is approved in the USA and in Europe for the treatment of elevated levels of triglycerides in humans, a condition known as hypertriglyceridemia, or HTG. It is also approved in Europe for secondary prevention of post-myocardial infarction, or Post-MI, the period following the survival of a heart attack.

Omacor/Lovaza is produced  through a complex proprietary process. It is sold and distributed in more than 40 countries around the world by our strong, regional business partners. Our main markets include the USA, the UK, Italy, Germany, France, Spain and Japan, known as the seven major global pharmaceutical markets. The demand for Omacor/Lovaza has grown significantly during the last years and is expected to continue growing.

Our extensive research and development activity includes a solid pipeline of collaborative projects to develop the use of the company’s active pharmaceutical ingredient further through clinical trials as a monotherapy for additional indications such as atrial fibrillation, heart failure and primary prevention in type II diabetes. These projects are all in phase III clinical development.

Together with our partners, we are also involved  in combination therapy projects for HTG and mixed dyslipidemia, as well as a new formulation capsule. These are expected to enter into phase III in 2008. Moreover, we are involved in a number of projects for next generation omega-3 derived products in preclinical studies and in early stages of discovery.
